3 skills for Succeeding in IT Projects: The Key to Accelerating Your Career

I had the opportunity to speak on the above topic at a Muslim Professionals’ networking event in Budapest yesterday. Based on my experiences as a project manager, I highlighted 3 key skills that accelerate career growth for IT professionals.

WHAT ARE THE SKILLS?

✅ Risk Management:

- Talking about risk doesn’t mean you are weak. It rather shows how strong you are that you can foresee potential issues.

- So, Identify and communicate risk before they become problem.

✅Ownership:

- When you are assigned with a task, take full responsibility, resolve issues, or reach out for help.

- Make sure the work is done, even if you need to go little beyond your job description.

- Don’t blame anyone or anything for your failure.

✅ Effective Communication:

- Communication is not just about speaking or writing.

- It’s about making sure the other person understands your message clearly.

- If a stakeholder didn’t understand your communication, it’s your fault, not theirs.

BUT WHY ARE THOSE SKILLS IMPORTANT?

- Because technical skills alone don’t guarantee success. Especially in the age of AI, technical parts can be done by AI.

- Companies need people who can take ownership, can manage risks, and communicate effectively.
